Season 1, Episode 8

[previous recaps here]

Zora takes advantage of Peter’s absence and goes ahead with her plans, regardless of what it will cost her family.Meanwhile, Peter’s daughter Jane begins a dangerous affair with Vincent’s brother Danny.

First of all, the summary doesn’t match the episode? Weird. The episode goes off the rails quite quickly, and watching it on its own really highlights that. I was also liquored up the first time and watched the next two right after which helped immensely.

There was also a horrible wig, but we’ll get to that.

We begin with the newly arrested Agent Neumann screaming that he’s from Europol and demanding someone free him. In the middle of the Congo? He’s lucky he’s a fictional character, lol. Somehow there’s a news reporter outside the police station and cameras catch the whole thing.

We cut to Hacksaw who is creating a commercial of some kind because the B team (Hacksaw, Trig and Romy) need the screen time. Apparently, we can all become private military contractors and a cheesy commercial is the best way to recruit candidates…?

Fresh off his car accident, an unconscious Vincent is carried back to the village after Djamba and the villagers show up to send Luther packing. Meanwhile, Grace has single handedly stopped the virus outbreak. There have been no new infections in 24 hours!

Vincent undergoes the healing process via village medicine. I remember feeling happy for Tom Welling when I first saw this. He got to be unconscious for a while! He didn’t have to speak!

Meanwhile, Agent Neumann has gone viral and ha ha ha played for laughs, insert bad jokes, etc. Dear Writers, this character was a huge mistake and having seen the next two episodes, I will never forgive you for creating him even though I forgot about his existence after I saw the finale.

I take it back, Tom Welling has to writhe around a bit while Vincent continues to heal. Oh, and then they have to sing to him when the pain gets bad. It’s kind of sweet, really. I’m not sure how I feel about this whole thing. Yes, traditional medicine works. No, it’s not going to heal someone within one day. Except on this show, obviously.

Malu (one of the kids who helped Peter save Vincent) tells Grace where Vincent and Peter are. However, Grace has the virus (well, there goes the good progress they made!) and is about to disappear from the plot. In all honesty, she’s been treating patients with no gloves, no mask, no PPE. It was inevitable.

Good news, though, Vincent is HEALED!

He and Peter have been found!

The pacing for this episode is all over the place!

Next, Saif shows up and Luther asks, “how are you not dead?”

PLOT REASONS, DUH.

Back to the C Team (Zach, Kolo and Tate) and Zach has a confession to make. Before he can, danger, danger – high voltage (if anyone ever reads this please forgive me for that obscure reference)! Saif is on the way to the mining village and they have to plan an attack. The elders want to protect their mine. I guess Vincent has another position. I don’t know, I just liked the miners wanting to protect what was theirs and not deferring to him.

Back to the B team, and I guess someone is after Trig. Uh. Noted?

Vincent’s plan is for them to give up their mine. WHY? Anyway, he has an idea. They rig the mine with landmines. Ooh.

Back to Zack and he’s a fraud who stole his cousin’s husband’s identity in order to become a personal (or private?) military contractor… This seems on par with this show.

Were all the writers on crack?!

The C Team are summarily dismissed but not before some badassery. They sneak attack Luther’s team and force them into attacking each other.

Peter goes back to the medical camp but gives Vincent a big old hug before he goes. Aww. This show should just drop all pretence at following a plot and just focus on the bromance.

AGAIN WITH THE WEIRD B-Team COMMERCIAL. They could have just not been in the episode. The writers are deffo on crack. I get what they’re going for. Some light-hearted interludes. It’s just that these aren’t light-hearted. They’re just bad and out of place.

Some guy rightly points out how ridiculous it was for Vincent to come to the Congo just to save Grace. Vincent says ‘love is complicated’. He means his love for Peter, obvs. Their bromance was fully solidified with the hug. I ship it. #Vinter #Pecent #VinPet

Anyway, there’s a battle. Vincent and co win thanks to his genius idea. He manages to get Luther one on one, but is unable to kill him due to an unremarkable and completely ridiculous gun misfire. This scene was a special kind of terrible. Isn’t Vincent Corbo basically the Rambo of this show? He should have been able to fix the weapon with his sheer will right there and then.

However, the cracked up writers are obviously saving the final showdown for later.

Oh and Danny shows up specifically to intimidate Agent Elias (Agent Neumann’s pregnant Europol partner in case you forgot). Ugh.

Rating: 5/10, but because of the hug, I feel like being generous and rating it a 7/10.

I finished watching the show ages ago, but gave up on the recaps because I’m lazy. Expect the next one in June. 😂
