People’s reactions to mass shootings often range from false concern, to no concern, taking several hours to tweet about it and…
… debating gun control.
The simple fact of the matter is that none of those reactions will undo the devastating and horrible action that happened in Las Vegas.
According to Bill O’Reilly, being targeted by someone who allegedly had up to 10 modified/semi-automatic weapons with him is the ‘price of freedom’s. He also claims that gun control won’t stop psychopaths from harming people. No, but it might stop them from shooting people. Or harming themselves. Guns are not toys.
There seems to be this weird never ending cycle of mass shooting in the US that do not have an impact on those that are pro-guns. I’m from a different country entirely and I feel sick every time I hear about a shooting in the US. I have no idea why people feel like the Second Amendment means they don’t have a right to ensure the safety of millions of people.
This chart shows the huge discrepancy between the US and other countries.
I’m not even going to go into it because I am tired of hearing about Trump. Just Google ‘Donald Trump Puerto Rico’ and go from there.
2. Jim Carrey
Yoo, what eff is Jim Carrey on? He’s out there sounding like he binge read fifty self-help and meditation books in a week and now he just speaks in weird sweeping statements that mean nothing at all.
Existential crisis or heightened case of preexisting douchebaggery? You decide.
The stuff about his ex is terrible too. The more he denies it, the more believable it is. Calling her immature and emotionally damaged when she’s dead and can’t defend herself was a low move even if her family are trying to sue him.
3. Boris Johnson
Apparently £140k isn’t enough to live on. Meanwhile, people in the UK are relying on food banks to feed their families. Out of touch doesn’t even cover it.
Add that to the fact that he’s trying to overthrow Theresa May.
Cabinet ministers and senior Tories have warned Boris Johnson that “nobody is unsackable”, demanded he get behind Theresa May and made clear they do not want a leadership contest.
The backlash against Mr Johnson was spelt out in the back rooms at the Conservative conference, at fringe events and from the main stage, where successive big hitters called for unity.
One cabinet minister told The Independent it “needs to stop” after Mr Johnson again publicly demanded changes to Ms May’s Brexit plans at the weekend, while another ex-minister said the Foreign Secretary looked “incredibly disloyal”.
If there’s one thing the United Kingdom is actually united on it’s Boris Johnson. The poor man’s Donald Trump. No one wants him anywhere near Downing Street.
This dude is straight up nuts. In fact, he’s the physical embodiment of the word incompetent.
I have no sympathy for Theresa May. She gave him the power he lost after the leadership debacle with Michael Gove.
Jacob Rees-Mogg, who recently said he was against abortion even for pregnancies resulting from rape, has admitted that his investment firm profits from pills used in abortions.
Mr Rees-Mogg, a devout Catholic who has been touted as a possible replacement for Theresa May as leader of the Conservatives, defended his fund, Somerset Capital Management’s £5m investment in an Indonesian company called Kalbe Farma.
Mr Rees-Mogg told the Sunday Mirror: “It would be wrong to pretend that I like it but the world is not always what you want it to be.
As the third round of discussions closes on Thursday, the British team are increasingly certain that the hands of EU chief negotiator Michel Barnier are tied by the rigidly worded mandate handed to him by the EU27 member states.
In what universe are his hands tied? His job is to negotiate, not to blindly say, well, there’s twenty seven countries versus the UK, so let me do you a favour!
British officials believe that the mandate given to Mr Barnier has prevented him having sufficient space to negotiate progress, in particular robbing him of the ability to move on to future trade relations, before separation issues like the divorce bill, citizens’ rights, and the Northern Ireland border are addressed
Once again, that’s how negotiations work. Future trade relations don’t benefit the EU, they would benefit the UK. The EU’s interest is…the EU. I’m not sure why the UK refuse to understand that no one is interested in making it easy for them.
A source familiar with the UK’s negotiating position said: “There is some concern about what the UK says is an inflexibility to the Commission’s approach, that it’s difficult to negotiate with people who have perhaps not been given the flexibility to negotiate.”
This is all funny considering that Theresa May’s job isn’t even secure (not that she’s noticed).
Theresa May has been warned that the Conservative Party will decide on her future, after she indicated she would lead it into the next election.
The Prime Minister surprised Tory colleagues with her defiant statement during a trip to Japan, where she insisted she was “not a quitter”, despite reports she would stand down after overseeing the Brexit process.
During the three-day trip to Japan, where she is seeking to boost future trade relations after Brexit, Ms May confirmed that she intends to fight the next election.
Oh Mayhem. They don’t want you as their leader anymore. They can’t even compliment you properly.
However, former party chairman Grant Shapps said it was “too early” to talk about going “on and on”, and that her comments would “raise eyebrows” among party members after the disastrous election result in June which saw Ms May wipe out her Commons majority.
He also gave faint praise to the Government’s Brexit strategy, saying people were “impressed by the Brexit papers: not necessarily even the contents, just that we were getting on with the job”.
Not necessarily even the contents.
It’s like being happy that your child has just learnt how to go potty. You’re happy that they’ve done it but… not necessarily happy with the contents.
The Government has been slammed by a UN Committee for failing to uphold the rights of disabled people through a string of austerity policies.
An inquiry into the UK’s progress in fulfilling its commitments to a major UN convention found ministers have failed people with disabilities through a catalogue of policies in recent years, affecting a range of areas from access to healthcare to equality in education and work.
Back in the BREXIT IS THE BEST! camp…
Lord Harris, a retail tycoon estimated to be worth more than £100m, claimed he could only employ staff for 35 hours a week under current EU laws.
However, the European Working Time Directive states employees should not be forced to work longer than 48 hours, and they can opt-out if they decide.
After admitting “we haven’t done too badly” when the presenter told him “you’ve done alright out of it,” he added: “I just feel we would be better off out of the EU.”
Lord Harris is now among the 1,000 richest people in the UK, according to The Sunday Times RichList.
…What the actual fuck? He basically has no idea what the EU rules are. Didn’t anyone tell him that the EU rules actually allows him to employ his workers for crazy hours. Or does he know but decided to try and defend his stance with a made up number? You tell me.
No one was able to find Trump’s donation to the fund.
Washington Post reporter David Fahrenthold noted that Trump also pledged $1 million to a veterans group. It was only after reporters revealed the donation never came, that Trump was finally forced to give. He’s only given $1 million donations twice ever.
It was said by man of the hour, Donald Trump, to a group of Harvey victims.
Seven days after the first major hurricane to make landfall in the United States in a dozen years struck the coast of Texas, leaving hundreds of square miles underwater and at least 50 people dead, a buoyant President Donald Trump arrived in Houston on Saturday morning to urge victims of the storm’s devastation to “have a good time!” in the face of losing their homes and loved ones.
The sooner that we don’t have to hear about this pus bucket (Trump) the better… ugh.
I’m gonna close out with some Linkin Park because this song is fitting.
The New York Times has this article up and the fact that I can’t understand why this woman supports Trump aside – I thought this was interesting.
“I feel like I am in a bizarro universe where no one but me is thinking logically,” she said. “We have gone so off the rails of what this conversation is about.”
No, sister. The only people not thinking logically are Trump supporters. I would understand if he’d actually done something since he became President, but all he’s done is announce his intent to do things. He couldn’t even keep his Muslim Ban™ going. The media are writing him off because he’s proven himself to be incompetent every single step of the way.
I’m not even going to comment on the fact that she’s black. I just can’t.
Meanwhile, Trump seems to be doing his best Harvey Dent impression this weekend.
First there was this (regarding counter protesters showing up at a ‘Free Speech’ rally for the right):
Looks like many anti-police agitators in Boston. Police are looking tough and smart! Thank you.
As a week dominated by President Trump’s response to the violence at a white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Va., draws to a close, many Republicans are worried that serious damage has been done to their party.
Specifically, they argue that Trump may have set back years of efforts to make the GOP more appealing to an increasingly diverse American electorate.
There is no mistaking the seriousness with which they view the situation.
So after all of the primaries, the campaign, the election and the shit show that’s occurred since now they’re worried about the damage to their party? I don’t think they’ve been taking it seriously at all.
Sigh. Anyway, sorry for the second Trump post in three days. I will get back to more pressing matters like the new Sharknado movie soon. I promise.
Sean Spicer says that his six months serving in the White House was an honour and a privilege.
Mr Spicer resigned suddenly from his top White House post this week, citing concern with Donald Trump’s decision to hire Anthony Scaramucci as White House communications director.
For those of you who were around during my The Real World: Trump Administration days, you’ll know that Spicer was a regular feature. Hell, he was all we could talk about. Gaffe after gaffe, mistake after mistake, idiotic comment after idiotic comment.
I think for the sake of his health and also the competency (hahahahaaa) of the administration, his resignation is the best thing for all. I am sure that we will look back on this day and see this as the moment he saved himself from impending doom.
On Monday’s show, Brzezinski said that when Conway appeared on “Morning Joe” during the campaign, she would praise Trump on air, then “the camera would be turned off, the microphone would be taken off, and she would say ‘Blech, I need to take a shower,’ because she disliked her candidate so much.” Scarborough said that Conway suggested that she was taking the job for the money.
The hosts of MSNBC’s Morning Joe have become virulent critics of the President and those close to him,” Conway said. “Ignoring insults and insinuations is a valuable skill. But when sentiments are attributed to me that are not true, it is necessary to respond.”
The notion that I am serving for ‘the money’ or a ‘paycheck’ is absurd. As campaign manager, I made a fraction of what other consultants have made on unsuccessful presidential campaigns,” Conway wrote. “Then I walked away from dozens of opportunities for millions or dollars, and instead walked into the White House. I would do it again.”
First of all, who was offering her millions of dollars? Girl, please. Secondly, she’s a liar. That’s basically it. Trump seems to surround himself with people who as morally corrupt as he is.
Meanwhile in the UK…
Labour (opposition party) can’t seem to figure out what their benefits policy is.
Labour’s benefit payments policy is in “chaos” this afternoon after the party struggled to agree if it would scrap the freeze on welfare.
A budding heart surgeon studying at Oxford University who knifed her boyfriend during a violent row could avoid jail because of her “extraordinary” talent, a judge has said. Oxford Crown Court Judge Ian Pringle said that a custodial sentence, which would normally be meted out for such a crime, would prevent Lavinia Woodward from embarking on her chosen career – a sentence, which he said was, “too severe”. It was stated at the court, where the 24-year-old admitted to a charge of unlawful wounding, that she met her victim on Tinder before she launched into her attack on 30 September. The judge heard how she punched the man and swiped at him with a bread knife after drinking and taking drugs. The Cambridge-educated man was stabbed in the leg before she threw a laptop, glass and a jam jar at him at the iconic Christ Church College. Pringle said: “It seems to me that if this was a one-off, a complete one-off, to prevent this extraordinary able young lady from not following her long-held desire to enter the profession she wishes to, would be a sentence which would be too severe.
Who cares if she an aspiring heart surgeon? What kind of message does this send? Besides the obvious – privilege, blonde hair and blue eyes will get you everywhere. If only everyone was afforded such a chance…
I think this will by next to-be-abandoned blog series. There will be a Trump post this weekend probably, though.
Theresa May thinks being disabled and having mental illness are the same thing – inconveniences.
A woman called Cathy, who said she had learning difficulties, tore into the Prime Minister on a walkabout in a market in Oxfordshire.
Cathy told Ms May of the harsh effect of losing her Disability Living Allowance, which was replaced by the new Personal Independence Payment (PIP).
“I can’t live on £100 a month. They just took it all away from me.”
Ms May tried to say that she was giving mental health more priority but Cathy interrupted to say: “I mean people in wheelchairs, and everybody, not just myself. For all of us!”
Cathy’s words most likely fell on deaf ears because…
Quizzed by The Independent last week, the Prime Minister refused to rule out making further cuts to disability benefits in the next Parliament, if she is returned to power.
Oh and if you think that’s bad, take a look at this stupid comment that was posted below the article.
In many respects I feel sorry for this lady as she clearly cares but is very much mistaken if she thinks that the Labour party are going to do any better.
The Labour party will cripple the country and then not be able to fund her.
What she needs is work she can do, irrespective of disability, or mental impairment.
Where is this work going to come from? The sky? She has been assessed as being not fit to work. What employer is going to take her on when they’re barely hiring people who are able to work? They might guarantee disabled applicants an interview but don’t let that fool you.
Not to mention the fact that it’s easy to say that without knowing her issues. People have committed suicide over losing their payments, they can’t afford to do anything, some of them are fucking housebound because the government is taking away their mobility scooters and wheelchairs. All so the government can save money without taxing the rich.
Across the pond…. Donald Trump has plumbing issues
The Washington Post revealed that in a meeting with the Russian ambassador last week, Trump let slip some highly classified information.
“This is code-word information,” one US official told the newspaper, a reference to one of the highest classification levels used by the American intelligence agencies. “[Trump] revealed more information to the Russian ambassador than we have shared with our own allies.”The report on Monday evening said one the most concerning aspects of the slip, was that Mr Trump revealed the city in Isis territory where the US intelligence partner detected the threat. There were claims that Russia could use the information to undermine the US, or its ally.
Despite assuring us that he isn’t engaged in any nefarious activity with the Russians, Donald Trump decided that he liked his new friends so much that he has to share his great intel.
Mr Trump was said to have boasted about his inside knowledge of the looming threat. “I get great intel. I have people brief me on great intel every day,” Mr Trump reportedly said.
…is this a joke? This is not something to boast about. You are The President, not a plastic doll (no matter how much your complexion resembles one). You can’t make this shit up.
Not to worry, though. His surrogates have denied it. #FAKENEWS
“This story is false,” said Dina Powell, deputy national security adviser for strategy, who was in the meeting. “The president only discussed the common threats that both countries faced.”
Mr Trump’s National Security Advisor, Gen HR McMaster, also said the story was false.
Given that Trump is apparently planning to reboot his staff because he has ‘nothing to lose’, I fully expect more stuff to be leaked from those he culls.
Donald Trump is mulling a massive shake-up of his closest advisers at the White House after the firing of former FBI director James Comey.
Mr Trump is reportedly considering what has been described as a “huge reboot”, anonymous sources told Axios, which could see advisers such as Chief of Staff Reince Priebus, Chief Strategist Steve Bannon, Counsel Don McGahn and Press Secretary Sean Spicer heading for the exit.
“The advice he’s getting is to go big — that he has nothing to lose,” the source said.
Meanwhile, Putin is sipping a cold one and laughing his head off.
Oh man, has it really been over ten weeks? There is a combined post this week because I was so annoyed by Brexit that I basically gave up on politics last week.
Obviously the main story this week was Syria. At least 80 people were killed in a so-called chemical attack. Turkish officials have said that tests carried out on victims showed that sarin was used. Sarin is a gas/ nerve agent that basically fucks your shit up FAST. That it was used at all is pretty despicable. Most people believe that Assad’s regime was behind the attack. Some people think that statements made last week about the removal of Assad no longer being a priority maybe spurred the Syrian government on:
The president’s U.N. ambassador, Nikki Haley, said on March 30 of Assad: “Do we think he’s a hindrance? Yes. Are we going to sit there and focus on getting him out? No.”
Anyway, despite the fact that Trump & co are banning Syrian immigrants from the US, the images of dead children seemed to be the straw that broke the camels back. Syrians still aren’t welcome, but y’know what, here are some more bombs courtesy of Trump. Lest we forget that as many people were killed in recent US-backed airstrikes as there were during the chemical attack. It’s very hard to see Trump’s action as anything but posturing and hollow words given the sudden turnaround and blatant hypocrisy.
If Obama attacks Syria and innocent civilians are hurt and killed, he and the U.S. will look very bad!
Russia and Iran have warned the US they will “respond with force” if their own “red lines” are crossed in Syria.
Following Friday’s cruise missile strike on a Syrian air base, in retaliation for the chemical attack on Khan Sheikhoun earlier in the week, the alliance supporting Syrian President Bashar al-Assad made a joint statement threatening action in response to “any breach of red lines from whoever it is”.
“What America waged in an aggression on Syria is a crossing of red lines. From now on we will respond with force to any aggressor or any breach of red lines from whoever it is and America knows our ability to respond well,” the group’s joint command centre said.
White House aides Steve Bannon and Jared Kushner have met and agreed to “bury the hatchet” over their differences, a senior administration official said, in a bid to stop infighting that has distracted from Donald Trump’s message.
Bannon, the president’s chief strategist, and Kushner, an influential adviser and Trump’s son-in-law, met on Friday at the request of White House chief of staff Reince Priebus who told them that if they have any policy differences, they should air them internally, the official said.
“YAY!” said no-one. These two are on different ends of the same line of bullshit. They will fall out again.
It’s Not A Popularity Contest…
…but if it was…Trump and his buddy Paul Ryan would be on the losing side.
Michael Flynn; a man who’s clearly done nothing wrong. At all.
Michael Flynn, President Donald Trump’s first National Security Advisor who unceremoniously resigned over allegations he had spoken to the Russian ambassador before taking public office, has offered to testify to officials investigating alleged links between the Trump campaign and Russia in exchange for immunity, sources have told the Wall Street Journal (WSJ).
The reports said that Flynn had made the offer to intelligence committees in the House of Representatives and the Senate, as well as the FBI, but none had so far taken him up.
At least two White House officials played a role in surfacing the classified documents that were viewed by House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes, ABC News has confirmed.
Nunes, R-California, later described that information as potential evidence of improper surveillance by United States spy agencies working under the Obama administration.
On Friday, the intelligence committee’s ranking member, Rep. Adam Schiff, D-California, visited the White House to view what Schiff described as “precisely the same materials” that Nunes viewed. Schiff did not provide details about what was contained in the documents but said he saw no reason the committee shouldn’t have been consulted before Nunes went public.
“Nothing I could see today warranted a departure from the normal review procedures, and these materials should now be provided to the full membership of both committees,” said Schiff in a statement. “The White House has yet to explain why senior White House staff apparently shared these materials with but one member of either committee, only for their contents to be briefed back to the White House.”
There are no words. At this point, this is just blatant deflection and so stupid.
Jared Kushner is spinning around, move out of his way
Jared Kushner, who comes to Washington with no government experience, no policy experience, no diplomatic experience, and business experience limited to his family’s real estate development firm, a brief stint as a newspaper publisher, and briefly bidding to acquire the Los Angeles Dodgers, will be working on trade, Middle East policy in general, an Israel-Palestine peace deal more specifically, reforming the Veterans Administration, and solving the opioid crisis.
Call me a political novice but, if I was rich, successful and whatever else rich and successful people are and completely clueless when it came to politics, why would I want to saddle myself with 500 different political responsibilities? This beyond nepotism, it’s insanity.
“If being complicit is wanting to be a force for good and to make a positive impact, then I’m complicit. I don’t know that the critics who may say that of me, if they found themselves in this very unique and unprecedented situation that I am now in, would do any differently than I’m doing. So I hope to make a positive impact. I don’t know what it means to be complicit, but, you know, I hope time will prove that I have done a good job, and much more importantly, that my father’s administration is the success that I know it will be.”
I think I just felt a strong gust of hot air. Ivanka appears to be full of it.
Democracy is a figment of our imaginations, clearly.
Pearls of Wisdom from Dr Ben Carson
“We are all in the same boat, and if part of the boat sinks, eventually, the rest of it goes down, too. When the Titanic started going down, you could be in the most luxurious suite, but you are still going down. So, you need to recognize that there is a problem here, and you need to work on it, too.”
Bear in mind that he was talking about inequality in ‘gentrified urban areas‘. Can someone tell him that rich and less well-off people are not on the same boat, hell, they’re barely on the same damn planet.
Be Careful What You Wish For
A Mexican man who spent almost two decades living in the United States was deported back to his home country late Tuesday, separating him from his US-born wife, who voted for President Donald Trump.
Roberto Beristain, 43, had been in custody since he was detained on Feb. 6 during a routine check-in with US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers. After spending almost two months in detention centers across six states, the Indiana resident was suddenly taken alone to Juarez, Mexico, late Tuesday night, he said in a statement released by his attorneys, who had filed legal petitions requesting his release.
“They suddenly told me it was time to go,” Beristain said. “They told me to get my stuff, they put me in the back of a van, and sped toward the border.
A Trump supporter who allegedly banned a woman from staying in her rental home because of her race has been removed from Airbnb.
The host allegedly wrote to Suh: “I wouldn’t rent to (you) if (you) were the last person on earth. One word says it all. Asian.”
….Wow. Refusing to rent is one thing. I mean, fuck you if you’re racist, I don’t want to stay in your house anyway. To follow it up with the extra racist shit is a step too far. I love how the racists all have an extra oomph in their step these days! Trump won, so y’know, racism is justified. Brexit is happening, so let’s just treat minorities and refugees like shit. Fuck that.
That’s all for now. I have probably missed tons of important things but hopefully I’ll have a more comprehensive post up next week. Or maybe I’ll finally about Brexit. Maybe. It’s still too depressing.
I’m sure most people have heard of the situation depicted in the above video. When I saw the headline, I wasn’t surprised. Stuff like this has become par for the course sadly, especially if you’re a black person. The video itself was largely disturbing. At sixteen seconds long (the initial clip), you wouldn’t think it’d be much but my jaw literally dropped and I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.
I was disgusted and appalled. And angry.
Naturally, I expect others to be too, but I always forget that you cannot fix stupid and that there’s no limit to the number of heartless people in this world.
I am completely dismayed by the number of people who were saying that they needed more facts before they could condemn what this officer did. Really? He flung this girl like she was rag doll and you need more facts? Her being ‘defiant’ and refusing to leave class is a justifiable reason for this to some people? Wow. Just wow. Apparently she was on her phone briefly, and pleaded to stay in class but the teacher demanded she leave. That was her crime – being on her phone and not participating in class. That is pure and utter bullshit but almost irrelevant. Textbook case of the punishment not fitting the fucking crime.
The fact is that a grown man, who supposedly lifts weights and weights 300lbs used excessive force against someone who wasn’t resisting. Someone who is supposed to be protecting students disrupted a class and terrified the other kids. That’s all anyone should take from this. All of this ‘kids these days have an attitude’ and ‘Oh, this is what she gets for being defiant’ is so mind numbingly stupid that I don’t even know what else to say.
So, on behalf of this girl, fuck anyone defending the school and that officer. I hope that this never happens to any of your loved ones or you. And I hope that you find some common decency at some point. Ugh.
Oh and Don Lemon can shut the fuck up as well with his bullshit.
