the oppression olympics

OPPRESSION

…because some people want to be oppressed so badly. They see oppression and instead of having empathy – they want sympathy for themselves.

BAME is a term used in the UK (and elsewhere) that simply means: black and minority ethnic. There is widespread evidence that BAME people in the UK are disadvantaged compared to white people, but predictably some refuse to believe this.

Instead, they believe that BAME people are the ones with privilege.

From March 2020:

Millennials from black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) backgrounds are at greater risk of being in unstable employment than their white peers, a study has shown.

They are 47% more likely to be on zero-hours contracts and have a 10% greater chance of having a second job. BAME millennials are also 5% more likely to be doing shift work and are 4% less likely to have a permanent contract than white workers.

I came across this now deleted post on Reddit:

BAME privilege is an underreported type of societal advantage that goes alongside white privilege. Some examples of BAME privilege are below:

•BAME Privilege is being able to break lockdown rules in groups tens of thousands, and not take any blame whatsoever for the upcoming second wave.

•Black Privilege is being significantly overrepresented in UK media despite only making 3% of the total population.

•BAME Privilege is being significantly more likely to be found carrying something illegal when stopped by the police, yet seeing the media ignore this statistic and publish other ones to paint a false picture of institutional racism.

•BAME Privilege is being hired for a job even though you may be less qualified because the company needs more diversity.

•BAME Privilege is being able to commit terrorist offences and clearly state your intentions, but have the media downplay your attack and mention somewhere at the bottom that it could be Islamic terrorism (even though there are videos of you on Twitter saying Allah Ackbar).

•BAME Privilege is not always integrating into society, and that being seen as a personal choice, rather than you being racist close minded.

•BAME Privilege is apparently being able to own specific cultures such as hairstyles, and accusing other people who use them with your made up term “cultural misappropriation”.

•It is also being able to pretend you own certain styles, such as a dreadlocks, even though they are a white invention.

•BAME Privilege is being able to rape tens of thousands of white children, but seeing the police do nothing about it because of your race.

•BAME Privilege is being homophobic and racist towards other BAME and white races, yet no one ever saying anything about it.

•BAME Privilege is holding the same evil and toxic views as the far right, but it’s ok because you’re a Muslim, and your religion teaches you that sexism and homophobia are ok, just like FGM.

•BAME Privilege is being able to demand an investigation when your race is more likely to die because of something, and the government actually doing it.

•BAME privilege is the ability to almost never be prosecuted for a hate crime just because you are BAME.

•BAME privilege is always having the media on your side.

•BAME privilege is being the most overrepresented group in prison, not because you’re more likely to commit crime, but because “the system is racist”.

•BAME privilege is having other races walk on eggshells around you because they’re scared of accidentally saying something that could be conceived as offensive, yet you yourself being free to use whatever discriminatory terms you like because “it’s just a joke”.

•BAME privilege is not being the least successful group in education because the system hasn’t given up on you.

•BAME privilege is when a racist attack against you happens and instead of it being page 20 news, it makes headlines around the world.

•BAME privilege is being able to tell an entire race that they are racist.

•BAME privilege is attacking police officers and journalists in the streets and seeing it go unreported by the media.

•BAME Privilege is blocking people out from discussing any of the the above, because that would be “racist.”

Thank you for listening to my TED Talk. If you have any questions, feel free to reply to this post, DM me, or if you’re a mod just censor it because it goes against your own bubble if ignorance.

First of all….

Secondly…

BAME Privilege is being able to break lockdown rules in groups tens of thousands, and not take any blame whatsoever for the upcoming second wave.

…and they’re just there for the fun of it as opposed to marching and fighting for equality.

BAME Privilege is apparently being able to own specific cultures such as hairstyles, and accusing other people who use them with your made up term “cultural misappropriation”.

Lazy. D- for effort.

It is also being able to pretend you own certain styles, such as a dreadlocks, even though they are a white invention.

…since when were dreadlocks a white invention? This is bush league trolling.

BAME privilege is always having the media on your side.

Yes, because the Daily Mail is known for it’s pro-BAME stance. /s

Black Privilege is being significantly overrepresented in UK media despite only making 3% of the total population.

…the delusion is strong with this one, but hey, if we are overrepresented – so what? We’ve earned it.

BAME Privilege is not always integrating into society, and that being seen as a personal choice, rather than you being racist close minded.

….this one is a viewpoint I’ve witnessed first hand.

They never stop to consider why people aren’t integrating into society though.

Could it be because we have to deal with stupidity on a daily basis like: “Where are you from?” / “Can I touch your hair?” / “Fuck immigrants!” / “You can’t wear your hair like that!” “You look softer with natural hair” / “Oh, your name sounds like [insert something insulting] / “If black people are getting stopped by the police, there’s probably a reason!” / “Immigrants have stolen all the jobs!” — and I could go on.

Why would anyone want to integrate with people who think that behaviour is okay?

People come here for a better life, not to be patronised or racially abused.

BAME Privilege is holding the same evil and toxic views as the far right, but it’s ok because you’re a Muslim, and your religion teaches you that sexism and homophobia are ok, just like FGM.

The ignorance really jumped out with this point. Religion is not the same as race or ethnicity, so try again. Last time I checked nobody singles out white people when it comes to sexism and homophobia (if anything, it’s often the opposite). FGM has nothing to do with privilege either – and really? Using that to buttress your point shows what kind of person this idiot is. I bet they don’t give two hoots about it on a regular day.

BAME privilege is not being the least successful group in education because the system hasn’t given up on you.

….but if BAME people make up 3% of the population (not an accurate number for BAME, but rather black people, but this person doesn’t care) are we really to blame for the system that’s given up on you? In what way are white people the ‘least successful group’ in education when you make up 80% of the country? LOL.

BAME privilege is attacking police officers and journalists in the streets and seeing it go unreported by the media.

…but it was reported! In fact – several ministers have blamed people for protesting, so…where’s our privilege?

BAME Privilege is being hired for a job even though you may be less qualified because the company needs more diversity.

Again, if we make up such a small amount of the population – how is this our privilege? Isn’t it the opposite? And what kind of fate lies in store for these diversity hires – are they really privileged?

Privilege is looking at people who are treated differently and asking – what about me?

My answer will always be what about you?

Nobody sent for you.

If you want to be oppressed – cool!

Don’t expect me to care when you only care about yourself and how people stating the truth makes you feel.
