the real world: trump administration, week 6

Well, I obviously have to lead with this.

Obama’s response:

A spokesman for Mr. Obama said any suggestion that the former president had ordered such surveillance was “simply false.”

I know who I believe.

Apparently they now want Congress to investigate this unfounded, baseless claim.

Someone Calls Out Trump On His Hypocrisy

…on FOX News no less.

“The leaks are not the news,” said Smith, “the substance is the news. President Trump has already cracked down on those leaks, and last week said news outlets should not be allowed to use anonymous sources.” He pointed out the hypocrisy of such a request, noting, “Still, officials in President Trump’s own White House regularly ask to remain anonymous when speaking to Fox News and others.”

“In other words, while saying reporters should stop using anonymous sources, the White House offers anonymous sources to reporters.”

The Diary Of Kellyanne Conwoman

if it isn’t your couch, your feet do not need to be on it.

Asked by interviewer Norah O’Donnell about the now infamous “alternative facts” episode, which many critics seized upon to illustrate the Trump White House’s facility with dishonest or misleading statements , Conway said she had simply spoken in error.

Alternatively, one could say that she lied.

“Well,” she said, “it was alternative information and additional facts. And that got conflated. But, you know, respectfully, Norah, I see mistakes on TV every single day and people just brush them off. Everybody thinks it’s just so funny that the wrong … movie was, you know, heralded as the winner of the Oscars.”

Yeah, yeah, no one cares. You are in a government office, not on a reality TV show. Shut up, and stop lying.

She added: “One thing that’s been a little bit disappointing and revealing and that I hope will get better is it turns out that a lot of women just have a problem with women in power.”

….as opposed to the misogynistic pricks that you work for/with? Girl, bye.

Spice(r) Up Your Life

Apparently, the Seal who died during the ‘successful’ Yemen operation knew what he signed up for.

“As I mentioned before, I think you can’t ever say that when there’s most importantly loss of life, and people injured, that it’s 100 percent successful,” Spicer said. “But I think when you look at what the stated goal of that mission was, it was an information and intelligence-gathering mission. It achieved its objectives.”

“So, again, I would express our thoughts and our prayers and our condolences to all of the people in Chief Owens’ family and his friends,” the press secretary added. “But it’s something that as a SEAL and as somebody who deployed 12 times, he knew that this was part of the job and he knew what he was doing.”

Can Spicer just fuck off now? Seriously. It’s like listening to an old person ranting on the bus.

Here’s what he had to say on Russia

We have now for six months heard story after story about unnamed sources saying the same thing over and over again,” Spicer said. “And nothing’s come of it.”

“I think Russia’s involvement and activity has been investigated up and down,” Spicer said. “So the question becomes at some point, if there is nothing to further to investigate, what are you asking people to investigate?”

“How many people have to say there’s nothing there before you realize there’s nothing there?”

Yeah, ’cause you guys are all so trustworthy.

Oh, and there was this…

Oh and one more thing, guys!

Other talking points

Then-Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) spoke twice last year with Russia’s ambassador to the United States, Justice Department officials said, encounters he did not disclose when asked about possible contacts between members of President Trump’s campaign and representatives of Moscow during Sessions’s confirmation hearing to become attorney general.

He had to recuse himself from the Russian Intelligence investigation as a result.

Email drama and a good dose of hypocrisy.

Yes, Mike Pence’s AOL account was hacked. Imagine that, using non-secure email to do business.

Pence’s email was hacked and his contacts received a message pleading for financial assistance after claiming that Pence and his wife had been robbed on a trip to the Philippines and desperately needed his friends and family to send money via a wire transfer.

Around the same time, Pence was railing against Hillary Clinton’s use of an insecure private email account while she was secretary of state.

The Indianapolis Star got the scoop, via a public records request, that Pence used the AOL account to discuss “topics ranging from security gates at the governor’s residence to the state’s response to terror attacks across the globe,” including an FBI counter-terrorism investigation.

Pence’s response:

“No, there’s no comparison whatsoever between Hillary Clinton’s practice of having a private server, mishandling classified information, destroying emails when they were requested by the Congress and by officials,” said Mr Pence.

“We have fully complied with all Indiana’s laws. We had outside counsel review all of my private email records to identify any emails that ever referenced or mentioned business, state business-related activities.

“And, as Indiana law requires, we transferred all of those to the state of Indiana, subject to the public access laws.”

Bullshit translation reads: la la la la I’m a hypocrite.

Welp. AP don’t give two orange hoots because both email addresses are still up in the article as of Saturday (4th)

Meanwhile in the UK….

Donald Trump’s trip to the UK will be postponed so that he can avoid protests.

Senior politicians and Theresa May hope that people will have forgotten about the President’s controversial policies by the time he arrives, according to The Sun, which first reported news of the change.

Mr Trump was invited to the UK by Ms May in January. But the move was immediately met by protests by both the public and Parliament, and the President is said to be concerned that he will be snubbed or embarrassed if he has his state visit in June as planned.

Apparently it’s been postponed to October. Something tells me they’ll wish they hadn’t when the mess they’re making of Brexit truly comes to light.

So far this week they’ve:

  • cut housing benefits for 18-21 year olds at a time when homelessness is on the rise
  • some old white Lord has claimed that British people are more interested in helping foreigners than their ‘own people’. This is despite the fact that he’s hired EU nationals and immigrant workers. I love how he now only hires white (most likely) British workers because they’re more likely to be ‘stayers’.
  • completely attacked the Scotland government because they don’t think they should be dragged down with the rest of the country.

I’m gonna go listen to ‘Alone I Break‘ by Korn on a loop and try not to get too depressed by the news. Thanks for reading!
